In light of global warming and climate change the results of which came to our doorstep a few weeks ago I think it's nothing but deplorable and disgusting that citizens across Canada have to continuously fight with some form of government to be environmentally responsible. That the city wants to ruin yet another amazing park to put a road thru it as the former government did to Hawthorn Park is so incredibly unacceptable and anti environment one can only wonder at their real agenda. Living in Surrey and having to constantly fight with local government to do the right thing which none of these people want to bother with is nothing but extremely demoralizing and exhausting!

Sure sure it's only a plan until they're offered huge incentives by the oil industry to "delay" doing it as has been done in many cities and communities dozens of times over the past few years. No doubt it's the "incentives" they'll be offered that causes them to make such brash commitments they've no intention to live up to.

What I know is the citizens of Surrey went to the polls and voted FOR the candidate who promised to end the ridiculous UNWANTED LRT down 104 Avenue and bring us our OWN police force. We're a BIG city OF COURSE we deserve to have that and have the rcmp gone. I'm quite gobsmacked that anyone who lives in Surrey would protest it much less prefer the current policing which is anything but respectful, efficient or accountable. We need policing from people who will be accountable because they'll live and stay in our community vs the 2 year stint we get with the rcmp.

Given the rents at these "affordable" places is twice what a lot of retired and minimum/low wage earners even make in a month it's nothing but insulting that anyone much less city officials with their high salaries and guaranteed healthy pensions would call them "affordable housing"!

I'm very troubled and deeply concerned about this. The Mayor's singled-minded agenda of forcing this through without any accountability or due process is not only frightening, I would say it's criminal. We, the people of Surrey need to wake up and take action to stop this.

Thanks to Al Macintyre for speaking up. I am a retired RCMP officer and was the Operations Officer in Surrey (same as Macintyre) from 2003 to 2006 during McCallum's second term. I can attest to the fact McCallum's behaviour hadn't changed. He thought he was exempt from parking regulations because he was the mayor and wanted homeless people arrested even though they hadn't broken the law.

What a change when Dianne Watt was elected. She was progressive and supportive of the police and increased the staffing level significantly. She went to Regina with a group of other mayors to see the RCMP training in person. Surrey Detachment adopted many of the best practices of other municipal departments to provide the best service possible to the citizens of Surrey. It became a leader in many areas of policing in the lower mainland. The RCMP was also responsible for the integration of many services in the lower mainland some of which include the municipal policing partners.

It is truly unfortunate that McCallum was reelected as I believe the changes he proposes are due to his personal vendetta rather than logic.

The police to population ratio across Canada is 185 per 100,000, Surrey is way below that at 142, even with the additional 125 officer Surrey will still be way below the national average, the current level of gang violence in Surrey is Surrey First legacy for the past last 10 years, it is all on Surrey First!

Surrey just opened Forsyth Park with a children's playground at 140 St (a fairly busy road) and 106 Ave. Without installing any Park Zone Signs or Marked Crosswalk at 106.
